Antigone by Sophocles
Reflection of Antigone by Sophocles
The story of Antigone occurred in a city called the city of Thebes. The story's main character is Antigone, who has two brothers, Eteocles and Polyneices. Eteocles and Polyneices fought against Thebes in the war, and both died. Antigone is the sister of these two brothers. She is worried about the decree that King Creon created for Polyneices because Antigone is a person who believes that people who die should be buried. King Creon did not want Polynices to be buried. King Creon was the one who ruled the city of Thebes.
Furthermore, King Creon was Antigone's uncle and discovered that Antigone buried Polyneices. King Creon ordered Antigone to be buried alive for violating the city's laws by burying her brother Polyneices. Regardless of whether they were family, his ambition had more power over him, so he decided to attack his niece. Antigone is a literary work representing family, loyalty, rights, conflicts, religious and personal ethics.
